What Is “Behind Closed Doors”?

At the start of 2025, I launched a deeply personal and creative photography project called Behind Closed Doors—a year-long visual series dedicated to exploring and representing mental health disorders in a raw, emotional, and symbolic way.

This series was born in January out of a desire to break the silence surrounding mental illness. So often, we only see the polished, curated versions of people’s lives—but behind closed doors, many are facing battles we never know about. With this project, I hope to bring those hidden realities to light, using photography as a way to create conversation, build empathy, and dismantle stigma.

Throughout 2025, I’ll be releasing a new conceptual photo session that focuses on a different mental health disorder. These sessions are not just about visuals—they’re about stories, lived experiences, and the very real emotions that come with mental health struggles.

From dissociation to addiction, and many others still to come, each chapter of this series is meant to be a tribute to those living with these conditions, and a call to others to truly see, understand, and support them.

Whether you’ve followed me for years or this is your first time here—thank you. Thank you for showing up, for being curious, and for caring. My hope is that Behind Closed Doors reaches the people who need it most and reminds us all: you are not alone, you are not broken, and your story matters.

As we continue into this transformative journey of 2025, I am honored to share the next installment in my year-long photo series, Behind Closed Doors.

This project is rooted in vulnerability, empathy, and awareness—shining light on mental health struggles often misunderstood or hidden in shame. Each month, I’ll be visually exploring a different disorder, hoping to dismantle the stigma and offer representation to those fighting battles the world doesn’t always see.

For this month, we focus on Addiction.

Addiction is more than a personal struggle—it’s a complex mental health condition that alters lives, relationships, and identities. It’s not just about substances or behaviors; it’s about pain, escape, and survival.

Through raw, symbolic imagery and personal storytelling, this series will honor those who’ve faced addiction, are fighting through recovery, or have lost someone to it. It is not weakness. It is not failure. It is human.

May this project be a gentle reminder: you are not alone, your journey is valid, and healing—however messy—is possible.
